New Delhi: Ishant Sharma, the India and Deccan Chargers fast bowler, has been ruled out of the fifth season of the IPL after undergoing surgery earlier this month and now faces a six-month lay-off.

According to reports, Ishant had postponed the surgery despite being advised to go under the knife during India’s tour of England last years. Ishant was apparently keen to travel to Australia and thus chose to delay the surgery, which he was told would require at least six months to recover from. After a poor Test series he returned to India before the CB Series.

According to the Hindustan Times, Ishant’s stitches will be removed only on April 2 or 3. The IPL season starts on April 4 and concluded on May 27.

The India and Deccan Chargers fast bowler is looking at a six-month absence from the game.

India’s next Test assignment is a home series against New Zealand scheduled for August-September. Ishant is expected to be fit to return by that time.

Having been purchased by Deccan from Kolkata Knight Riders for the fourth season of the IPL, Ishant took 11 wickets from 12 matches with a best of 5 for 12. Apart from that match he struggled to make an impact with the ball.
