Punjab rode on Uday Kaul's unbeaten 96 to take the vital first innings lead against Railways at the end of the second day in a Ranji Trophy Group A match. At stumps, Punjab were on 230 for 5 in their first innings in reply to Railways 205.
Kaul ended the day just four runs short of a fine century while Amitoze Singh (55) and opener Jiwanjot Singh (44) also made useful contributions with their bat for Punjab.
For Railways, Krishnakant Upadhyay scalped two wickets for 50 runs. Earlier, Railways just added 12 runs to their overnight score of 193 for 7 before being bowled out in just 4.5 overs.
Railways: 205 all out in 78.5 overs (Nitin Bhille 41, Krishnakant Upadhyay 38; Sandeep Sharma 4 for 38, Siddarth Kaul 3 for 66).

In Kolkata, Bengal skipper Manoj Tiwary scored the 17th first-class century of his career as home team reached 220 for 4 in reply to Gujarat's first innings score of 260. Courtesy Tiwary's unbeaten 102 and a fine 75 from veteran Subhamoy Das, Bengal are now just 41 runs shy off getting the first innings lead.
The Tiwary-Subhamoy combination added 101 runs for the third wicket after Bengal lost their openers Partha Sarathi Bhattacharjee and Sreevats Goswami for scores of 3 and 2 respectively.

In Hyderabad, Ravindra Jadeja snapped six wickets in a brilliant bowling performance as Saurashtra bowled out Hyderabad for 186 to take a crucial 74-run first-innings lead. Jadeja ran through the Hyderabad middle and lower order with his slow left-arm orthodox bowling after offspinner Kamlesh Makvana had claimed the wickets of both the openers Akhsath Reddy (51) and Ravi Teja (20).
Earlier, Saurashtra could add just nine runs at the expense of three wickets in 8.1 overs to their overnight score of 251 for 7 to be all out for 260 in 98.1 overs. Pacer Ashish Reddy returned with a fine six-wicket haul as he added two more wickets -- that of overnight not out batsmen Sandip Maniar and Kamlesh Makvana -- to his four on Saturday.
