After packing up Kenya for a mere 69 runs, NZ chased down the target in eight overs.
Chennai: Pace bowler Hamish Bennett took 4-16 as he led New Zealand to a stunning 10-wicket victory over Kenya on Sunday, his side later needing just eight overs and 37 minutes to make a winning start in Group A at the World Cup.
Bennett, Tim Southee and Jacob Oram shared the spoils as the African side was shot out for just 69 in 23.5 overs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium after Kenya captain Jimmy Kamande won the toss and decided to bat.
Martin Guptill struck 39 and fellow opener Brendon McCullum added 26 as New Zealand replied with an unbeaten 72 to secure victory.
Only Kenyan three batsmen — Seren Waters, Collins Obuya and Rakep Patel — managed to reach double figures.
Oram took 3-2 and Southee returned 3-13.
