Kohli drops Warner

After Australia's openers had rattled off 149 runs in 23 overs on Friday evening, the tone looked to repeat itself on day two at the WACA. David Warner was timing the ball well and India were searching for an early wicket.

Zaheer Khan produced that opening first ball of the 35th over, when Australia were 193 for 0. Warner went after a pitched-up delivery and edged it to first slip, where Virat Kohli – stepping into the cordon while Rahul Dravid was off the field spilled the catch. It came to him low to his right, but Kohli, not a natural slip catcher, reacted late.

It can be argued that Dhoni should have gone for the catch. Instead, he shouted "catch" immediately. After the chance went down, Dhoni and Kohli looked dazed. Warner, at the time on 126, added 54 more runs before he was dismissed for an excellent 180. Kohli's drop had given him a life.
