David Warner slammed a fluent 79 to guide Delhi Daredevils to a comfortable six-wicket win against Kings XI Punjab in their Indian Premier League match at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Saturday. Warner hit ten fours and four sixes in his brilliant knock. The Australian was dropped on 46.

Delhi's win has also ensured Mumbai's entry into the knockout stage as even if Mumbai lose Sunday's match against Rajasthan Royals they will still end with 18 points, which is enough to get fourth position in the table.

Chasing a competitive total of 142 to win, Delhi didn't show any discomfort as compared to their opponents and cruised past the target with 10 balls to spare. Mahmood dismissed Chand and later Ryan Harris (2 for 19) accounted for Warner and Irfan Pathan (5) but Y Venugopal Rao (21) batted sensibly to guide the side to finish line.

Warner made a quickfire 79 and backed up the good bowling of Umesh and Morkel as Delhi ended Punjab's hope of qualifying for the playoffs.

Delhi's win has also kept CSK in the hunt. If Bangalore lose on Sunday, they will be tied on 17 points with Chennai and the defending champions will sneak into the next stage due to better net run-rate.

Earlier, Umesh Yadav and Morne Morkel shared seven wickets as Delhi restricted the Kings XI Punjab to 141 for 8. Morkel had figures of 4 for 20 while he was well-supported by Umesh who ran through Punjab's top-order with 3 for 19.

Yadav struck with his first ball of the match with a seaming delivery that found the outside edge of Mandeep Singh's (0) bat with keeper Naman Ojha completing a regulation catch. Skipper Adam Gilchrist (9) departed in the fourth over bowled by Umesh when he went for the pull but only ending up getting a top-edge that was picked up by Varun Aaron at mid-on.

Morkel, who was regularly bowling deliveries that were touching the 150km/h mark, was the next man to strike when he had an Paul Valthaty (2) caught at third man. Umesh made the matter worse for the hosts as he got the dangerman David Hussey (3) caught at mid-on by Pathan to leave Punjab tottering at 20 for 4.

Siddharth Chitnis and Azhar Mahmood then put on 57 runs for the fifth wicket to add some respectability to the score. But the right-handed Chitnis' knock was ended when he top-edged a short ball from seamer Andre Russell and was caught at square leg by Pathan. Mahmood and Gurkeerat Singh (26) then built on with a blazing sixth-wicket stand of 45 off four overs with 22 of those runs coming off the 17th over of the innings, bowled by Russell.

But Morkel then took centre stage when he had Mahmood, who scored 36 off 38 balls, caught at point. Ryan Harris accumulated 15 runs off the last over bowled by Umesh to take his team past 140.
