Aus vs Ind, 3rd Test, Day 3: as it happened

Australia wrapped up the last four wickets quickly after lunch to win the four-match series 3-0.

10:52 a.m. Nine down! Three wickets in the over for Hilfenhaus. This time it's Ishant Sharma taking the long walk back. Australia just one wicket away from winning the match and the series.

I Sharma c Cowan b Hilfenhaus 0 (3)

10:50 a.m. Double blow! Hilfenhaus removes Vinay and Zaheer off successive balls as Kohli resumes battle after lunch.

Zaheer Khan c Clarke b Hilfenhaus 0 (1)

Vinay Kumar c Clarke b Hilfenhaus 6 (20)

10 a.m. Lunch! India 165 for 6, trailing by 43 runs. Kohli still there with a fighting 69.

9:50 a.m. Kohli is playing some scintillating shots meanwhile. Clarke brought the field up with last two balls left in the over and Kohli responds with a copybook cover drive. India are 157 for 6, trailing by 51 runs.

9:40 a.m. Siddle ends Dhoni's agony. The Indian skipper departs, giving catching practice to the slips cordon. Australia now just four wickets away from a series win.

MS Dhoni c Ponting b Siddle 2 (16)

9:30 a.m. Are the Aussies smelling another 'easy kill' with MS Dhoni in the middle? His nervous pokes suggest so.

9:18 a.m. The Wall falls! Once again Australia breach Dravid's defence, this time through Ryan Harris. This is the 54th time Dravid has been bowled. A record in striking contrast of his coined name 'The Wall'. It's 135 for 5.

Rahul Dravid b Harris 47 (114)

9:15 a.m. The hot Perth conditions aren't allowing Australian quicks to bowl longer spells, which has presumably worked in India's favour so far.

9 a.m. Fifty for Virat Kohli and a harmless first hour for India on day three. The Dravid-Kohli partnership has carried India's score to 129 for 4, but still 79 runs adrift.

8:50 a.m. It's pretty hot out there as the mercury touches 33 degrees. The positive side of it for India is that it has eased the pitch out as both Kohli and Dravid near a half-century.

8:40 a.m. The Indian duo's defiance has forced Clarke to change the attack as Mitchell Starc and Peter Siddle bowl their first over of the day. Starc dismissed Gambhir and Tendulkar last evening.

8:30 a.m. So far so good for India. No wickets and a couple of boundaries, but still a wall to climb at 112 for 4.

8:20 a.m. The sun beating down should make batting a bit easier, as was shown by Dravid in the four he struck to bring up India's hundred.

8:10 a.m. India have started on a familiar note. Runs hard to come by as Hilfenhaus and Harris make the Indian batsmen hop with swing and bounce in the first three overs.

7:45 a.m. It's Day 3 of what's fast becoming another forgettable tour for India, who are on the brink of losing the third Test and with it the four-match series 3-0 to Australia.

Innings defeat inside three days looms large as the visitors resume their second innings at 88 for 4, which is 120 runs short of making Australia bat again.

Day 2 round-up:

A fantastic show by the bowlers was followed by another batting fiasco for India.

After Umesh Yadav's five-for restricted Australia's first innings lead to 208, the Indian top order once again surrendered to Aussie pace that reduced the visitors to 88 for 4 at stumps, still 120 runs in the deficit.
