Kings XI Punjab Innings

20th over: Punjab 134 for 8. Rajasthan Royals win by 43 runs. It's an easy victory and Punjab were never in it once they lost Shaun Marsh and David Hussey in quick succession.

The change in combination has worked well for Rajasthan, with the big-ticket player Shaun Tait returning with figures of 2 for 18 in his four overs.

IPL 5, Match 48: as it happened

Having scored 177 after electing to bat first, Rahul Dravid's men restricted Kings XI Punjab to 134 for 8.

19th over: Punjab 126 for 8. Most of the crowd is on their way out of the stadium as Rajasthan perform the last rites to complete a facile and much-needed win.

RJ Harris c Botha b Tait 3 (5)

18th over: Punjab 121 for 7. Watson buying some easy wickets here as he disturbs the timber behind Chawla off a delivery that was bowled at 140 kmph.

Piyush Chawla b Watson 5 (4)

17th over: Punjab 116 for 6. Gurkeerat finally brings out his array of strokes, hitting Botha for two consecutive fours. But the South African has the last laugh and pouches the skier himself to avoid further embarrassment to his team in the field.

Gurkeerat Singh c & b Botha 23 (24)

16th over: Punjab 104 for 5. Two dropped chances in that over. Dravid is gutted. Both on a skier miscued by Gurkeerat. First Chavan grasses it, followed by wicketkeeper off a similar miss-hit.

15th over: Punjab 97 for 4. Mahmood has fallen prey to the mounting require run-rate as Stuart Binny bowls him off a slower delivery. 81 needed in the last five overs.

Azhar Mahmood b Binny 24 (24)

14th over: Punjab 89 for 4. Mahmood gets a life in that over bowled by Chavan as Hodge drops an easy chance. But still no boundaries in the over.

13th over: Punjab 82 for 4. Shaun Tait is ensuring that the lid is tightly in place over Punjab's run-scoring. The required run-rate is going through the roof here, over 13 now.

12th over: Punjab 78 for 4. Azhar Mahmood has vented his anger on Trivedi here and deposits him deep into the stands. But Punjab need many more of that to make a match of it now. 100 needed in eight overs.

11th over: Punjab 68 for 4. This is going awfully wrong for Punjab. Gurkeerat Singh, who hasn't played a First Class match yet, is finding it difficult to get the ball off the square.

10th over: Punjab 65 for 4. Mahmood gets a four under his belt but Punjab have their backs to the wall, needing 113 in the last 10 overs.

9th over: Punjab 60 for 4. Botha scalps Hussey, and this could be a telling blow as the Australian is the in-form batsman for Punjab and was striking it well. Strategic time-out!

Shaun Marsh b Botha 34 (27)

8th over: Punjab 57 for 3. Trivedi sends Hussey back. After a streaky four off the first ball of the over, Hussey attempts a pull but finds a diving Hodge completing a superb catch.

David Hussey c Hodge b Trivedi 8 (6)

7th over: Punjab 51 for 2. Marsh has decided to counter-attack and gets stuck into Chavan. 0, 4, 0, 6, 4, 4 makes it 18 runs off the over.

6th over: Punjab 33 for 2. Nitin Saini succumbs to Tait's pace, and the Powerplay battle has been won by Rajasthan handsomely. Saini is clearly beaten for pace there as Tait takes a simple return catch.

Nitin Saini c & b Tait 2 (9)

5th over: Punjab 27 for 1. Impressive beginning by Botha and the Powerplay keeps getting worse for Punjab. Just fives runs off that over, run-rate less than six an over.

4th over: Punjab 22 for 1. Aussie facing Aussie as Watson runs in to Shaun Marsh. Marsh wins the first round there with two boundaries, first off a misfield by Tait at fine-leg and second one smacked over Watson's head. 'Shaun-E-Punjab' is what the big screen flashes!

3rd over: Punjab 13 for 1. Just one over for Chavan, who has been replaced by Shaun Tait. The Aussie, who is playing his first match of this IPL, begins well by conceding just five runs off the over. So two Australians bowling in tandem now.

2nd over: Punjab 8 for 1. Mandeep is taken care of by Watson. And the maiden over is the icing on the cake. Watson bowls it short but the timing on that pull goes awry for Mandeep and the ball goes straight to Trivedi at mid-on.

Mandeep Singh c Trivedi b Watson 7 (6)

1st over: Punjab 8 for no loss. It doesn't take long for the promising Mandeep Singh to take off. He sends the second ball of his innings sailing over long-on for a six. Ankeet Chavan isn't bemused at all.

RAJASTHAN ROYALS INNINGS

20th over: Rajasthan 177 for 6.

Two wickets in the over but also a fair bit of damage, chiefly from Hodge's bat who hit Harris for a six and a four to make sure Rajasthan crossed 170.

Two wickets in the over as well, off two brilliant efforts by Marsh, for Harris who finished with figures of 4 for 34. Stiff ask for Punjab.

Brad Hodge c Marsh b Harris 36 (23)

Stuart Binny c Marsh b Harris 0 (1)

19th over: Rajasthan for 166 for 4. Hodge has deposited Mahmood over the long-off boundary for a six. And Botha ends the over with a four through the covers, making it 16 runs off Mahmood's last six deliveries. The Pakistani's figures read 4-0-37-0. So that last over has clearly damaged his figures.

18th over: Rajasthan 150 for 4. Hodge and Botha are making a move on here. Nine runs off this over from Praveen, including a crisp four between mid-wicket and mid-on by Hodge.

17th over: Rajasthan 141 for 4. A boundary after five overs for Rajasthan. Botha hits a calculative cut over point to end Mahmood's third over.

16th over: Rajasthan 133 for 4. Rajasthan are losing the plot here. Menaria, who got a life in the last over, fails to take advantage of it. Trying to loft a pitched-up delivery by Chawla, the left-hander hits it only as far as the deep mid-wicket fielder. Second wicket for Chawla and Punjab keep coming back into the match.

Ashok Menaria c Gurkeerat Singh b Chawla 34 (27)

15th over: Rajasthan 126 for 3. The pressure to score quick runs is telling on the Rajasthan batsmen now. And Menaria can consider himself lucky as Mandeep Singh drops him at deep square-leg.

14th over: Rajasthan 119 for 3. Harris gets rid of Dravid, his second wicket of the innings so far. An attempted drive catches the edge and flies into the lap of Awana at third-man.

Rahul Dravid c Awana b Harris 46 (39)

13th over: Rajasthan 116 for 2. Both Dravid and Menaria are clearly looking to use the long handle now. However, Awana keeps them from inflicting any further damage to his figures. Just six runs off the over.

12th over: Rajasthan 110 for 2.

Menaria gets into the act and hurts Chawla in the process with two sixes. The first one sends the cameraman into a hiding just beside the sight-screen and the second one over the mid-wicket fieldsman.

11th over: Rajasthan 96 for 2. Good over by Awana. After being hit for 19 runs in his first over, he restricts the Rajasthan duo to just a couple in the over.

10th over: Rajasthan 94 for 2. Chawla has kept Menaria quiet in this over but there's no stopping Dravid, who adds another boundary to his account through wide long-off.

9th over: Rajasthan 87 for 2. Mahmood's second over hasn't gone to his plans with Dravid and Menaria hitting him for a boundary each. Rajasthan haven't lost momentum despite Watson's loss.

8th over: Rajasthan 78 for 2. Hussey presses Chawla into service and the leggie catches the big fish Shane Watson. After hitting a six over long-on off the previous ball, Watson tries to clear long-off on the next but doesn't get the distance. Harris runs in and completes the catch with a brilliant diving effort.

Shane Watson c Harris b Chawla 36 (17)

7th over: Rajasthan 68 for 1. Azhar Mahmood has restored sanity to the proceedings. The Pakistani allrounder's change of pace restricts it to just four runs as the umpire signals strategic time-out.

6th over: Rajasthan 64 for 1. It's raining fours and sixes here. Including the 19 runs scored in this over, Dravid and Watson have now hit 49 runs in the last three overs. Another couple of boundaries and a six in this one, courtesy Watson this time.

5th over: Rajasthan 45 for 1. Second consecutive 15-run over for Rajasthan. After a pulled four by Watson off the first ball bowled by Praveen, Dravid keeps making merry with two more fours to his name, both through the covers.

4th over: Rajasthan 30 for 1. That is vintage Dravid stuff! Three consecutive boundaries - first clipped off his legs, second a cover drive and the third a signature on-drive. Harris the sufferer as Rajasthan get going.

3rd over: Rajasthan 15 for 1. Watson gets going in that over by Praveen with a flat four over the umpire. But good last ball to end the over. Dravid almost got bowled.

2nd over: Rajasthan 8 for 1. Harris takes out Rahane. Just after hitting Harris for a four through point, Rahane tries to cut a rising delivery that finds the edge before settling into wicketkeeper's gloves.

Ajinkya Rahane c Saini b Harris 5 (6)

1st over: Rajasthan 3 for no loss. Watchful start by Rahane and Dravid. Trying to gauge the length Praveen Kumar is bowling, and also the natural swing of his.

7:45 p.m. Toss! Rahul Dravid calls correctly and Rajasthan are batting. Punjab skipper David Hussey says he is happy chasing.

Rajasthan have excluded Owais Shah, Brad Hogg and Shreevats Goswami and included Shaun Tait, Johan Botha and Dishant Yagnik. For Punjab, Gurkeerat Singh makes his IPL debut; Paras Dogra is out.

Kings XI Punjab: Nitin Saini (wk), Mandeep Singh, Shaun Marsh, David Hussey (capt), Azhar Mahmood, Abhishek Nayar, Ryan Harris, Piyush Chawla, Praveen Kumar, Parwinder Awana, Gurkeerat Singh

Rajasthan Royals Rahul Dravid (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Shane Watson, Brad Hodge, Ashok Menaria, Ankeet Chavan, Johan Botha, Stuart Binny, Dishant Yagnik (wk), Shaun Tait, Siddharth Trivedi

7:25 p.m. Welcome! We are at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mohali, and this is Match 48 of the Indian Premier League's season five.

The hosts Kings XI Punjab are up against Rajasthan Royals. While the former's graph has hit an ascending curve, Rajasthan's dream start to the season has been jolted by a string of losses. Toss coming up next.
