Karachi: PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf on Saturday clarified that the former Test captain, Javed Miandad has been sent to Sri Lanka in his capacity as Director General (Cricket) and not as a batting coach or consultant to motivate the country's players before the Twenty20 World Cup.
"There appears to be some confusion on why Miandad has been sent to Sri Lanka to be with the team before the T20 World Cup. He has not gone there as a batting coach neither as a batting consultant, he has gone there as DG cricket to look into some team issues and talk to the players," Ashraf told PTV sports.
Ashraf said the PCB management wanted Miandad to pass on his vast experience of playing in the World Cup tournaments to the players to prepare them for the mega event.
PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf says Javed Miandad has gone to Sri Lanka as Director General (cricket) to look into some team issues.
Though Ashraf didn't elaborate further, but sources told PTI that Miandad has gone to Sri Lanka apparently as a troubleshooter and his main task is to have a talk with Whatmore and skipper Mohammad Hafeez.
"There have been complaints about Whatmore and Hafeez not being very objective in their decisions and indications are that Miandad has been given the task of clarifying the job description of every one in the team," a source said.
