Nadeem Ghauri refutes fixing allegations

New Delhi: On Monday, news channel India TV broadcast the sting operation they had carried out exposing umpires from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka agreeing to fix Twenty20 matches in return for financial benefits. However, according to a report published on Pakistani news website thenews.com.pk, Nadeem Ghauri, one of the six umpires shown in the sting, has rejected all the allegations.

The report says Ghauri, in an interview to Geo New, has called it a propaganda against him and that there is no truth in the sting operation. Ghauri also said that he had not been in the international panel for the past two years.

The sting shown by India TV named six umpires - Nadeem Ghauri and Anees Siddiqui from Pakistan, Bangladesh's Nadir Shah and Sri Lankans Gamini Dissanayake, Maurice Winston and Sagara Gallage - who agreed to take money in exchange of providing basic information related to the game.

According to reports, the Pakistani umpire has called it a propaganda against him, saying there\'s no truth in it.

Ghauri has also clarified that the exchange, which happened during the Sri Lankan Premier League, has been presented out of context.

Ghauri has played for Pakistan in one Test and six ODIs, after which he took up umpiring and officiated in 43 ODIs, 14 Tests and four T20 matches, the last of which was in November 2010.
