Khulna: A record breaking century by captain Shariyar Nafees and a quick-fire fifty by opener Lou Vincent ensured that Khulna Royal Bengals defeated Duronto Rajshahi by 68 runs to register their first win this season at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium, Khulna on Thursday.
Nafees and Vincent scored 197 for the opening wicket in 20 overs with Nafees cracking the first ton by a Bangladesh batsman in T20s scoring 102 off 69 balls whereas his partner Lou Vincent clobbered eight sixes en route to his 51-ball 87. The duo clobbered 32 runs off Moeen Ali’s two overs as they set the highest partnership for any wicket in BPL.
In reply, Duronto Rajshahi batsman failed to get going as they lost wickets at regular intervals with captain Jahurul Islam top scoring with 26. By the 12th over, the Rajshahi lost half their side with the score on 73. Khulna’s strike bowler, Farhad Reza, got three wickets but it was the Afghanistan bowler Shapoor Zardan who impressed with a tidy spell of 3.3-0-9-2 at a miserly economy of 2.57 runs per over.
