Commentary (Pakistan 2nd Innings)

So that's it from all of us here! Do join us for the second Test between the two sides starting on 8th January, 2013. Until then, it's good bye and take care!

Misbah-ul-Haq - Starts off saying it was a good match, both teams played well. Admits they need to bat better, they can't afford losing wickets in a clatter. Says they must improve fielding as well. Calls the pitch as a typical Abu Dhabi pitch. Admits there was no turn which made the work hard for Ajmal. Credits the Lankans for batting well against his best spinner. Says they have a lot of positives, Junaid, Bhatti, Shehzad, Younus all contributed well so it was good for them.

Angelo Mathews was adjudged the Man of the Match for his splendid knocks in both the innings. Says he is happy with the way he batted, wishes to bat in similar fashion ahead. Admits this is the best he has batted for Sri Lanka. Adds saying toss was crucial, Pakistan bowlers bowled well so he had to grind it out. Calls it a see saw battle saying both teams played well. Says Chandimal and Silva did well to see off the testing spells. Hails Jayawardene as the best wicket keeper around. Says he is pleased with the performance of the team.

Chasing a target of 302 was never an option on the last day. Pakistan started poorly with Manzoor getting out very early. Hafeez and Shehzad then steadied Pakistan with a good stand of 101 runs before Shehzad was dismissed. Hafeez played his shots scoring an unbeaten 80 with Younus to help them salvage a draw. Stay tuned for the details from the presentation.

Pakistan batted well with twin hundreds from Younus and Misbah which helped them get a lead. Sri Lanka fought back hard as they build partnerships with good fifties from Chandimal and Sangakkara. Mathews played a splendid knock to help them get into the lead past 300, scoring his first Test century as a skipper.

Pakistan began this match dominating all the first three days when they bowled Sri Lanka out for a low score of 204. Mathews was the only star in that innings as he scored 91. Junaid took five wickets as he troubled them with his pace and swing.

The players shake hands to call it a draw! A very good result given how both the teams played in this Test. A hard earned draw for both the teams to start the new year.
