Chawla has been given the requisite No Objection Certificate by the BCCI but the 24-year-old is yet to get the visa.
Somerset have roped in Indian legspinner Piyush Chawla for the rest of the English County season, a report in ESPNcricinfo said on Thursday.
Chawla has been given the requisite No Objection Certificate by the BCCI but the 24-year-old is yet to get the visa, the report added. If everything goes according to plan then Chawla will play for the club in their next County Championship game at Edgbaston on August 20.
Chawla has previous experience of county cricket when he represented Sussex in 2009. He took 36 wickets at 27.25 for the club.
Chawla has so far represented India in three Tests, 25 ODIs and seven T20 internationals.
He became the second Indian player on Thursday to give his nod to play in the County circuit this season after Gautam Gambhir joined Essex.
Somerset had earlier signed Pakistan left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman but the 33-year-old had to pull out of the deal when he was named in Pakistan's squad for the Zimbabwe tour.
