Kerala team players celebrate after dismissing Services' Jasveer Singh during their Ranji Trophy match in Kochi on Thursday (PTI)
Kochi: There was plenty of joy for the bowlers on the opening day of the second round of the Ranji Trophy Plate Division matches on Thursday.
Akshya Darekar picked up five wickets as Maharashtra bowled out Hyderabad for 124, before the visitors themselves lost four wickets to end the day's play at 63 for 4.
Meanwhile, there was also a five-wicket haul for Tripura's Manisankar Murasingh as Andhra were all out for 235. Andhra won the toss and chose to bat, but were in trouble at 112 for 7. However, Gonnabattula Chiranjeevi's 52 was supported by some valuable contributions from Syed Sahabuddin (38), Vamsi Krishna (34) and Atchuti Rao (36) to take Andhra to a respectable total.
It was a similar story in Dharamsala as Amol Jungade's fiver saw Himachal Pradesh end their first innings at 195, with only Abhinav Bali (52) managing to cross the fifty-run mark. Vidarbha then lost their openers to reach stumps at 40 for 2.
In another Group A game, Services scored 198 for 5 in their first innings against Kerala on the opening day of their four-day Plate Division match.
At the close of play, captain Yashpal Singh was unbeaten on 36.
Earlier, opting to bat, R Paliwal made 73 runs (eight fours, 155 balls) before he was bowled by P Prasanth. SM Swain was the other main contributor for Services with 33 runs that came off 84 balls, studded with three fours.
For Kerala, Rohan Prem (2 for 18) picked up two wickets, while U Manukrishnan (1 for 23), Prasanth Parmeshwaran (1 for 35) and P Prasanth (1 for 33) chipped in with one wicket apiece.
India discard S Sreesanth did not play the match as he had a swollen left toe.
