Praveen Kumar temporarily banned, issued show cause notice

New Delhi: Swing bowler Praveen Kumar has been banned temporarily and issued a show cause notice by the BCCI following his bust-up with the opposition player in a Corporate Trophy game in Bhilai recently.

The matter will be further investigated by the BCCI's Disciplinary Committee, which will mean Kumar won't be able to play the upcoming inter-state Vijay Hazare Trophy matches.

"Praveen Kumar has been issued a Show cause notice by the Board. He has been suspended from participating in the forthcoming inter-state Vijay Hazare Trophy matches," the BCCI said in a release.

BCCI issued the notice following Praveen\'s bust-up with a opposition player in the Corporate Trophy game in Bhilai recently.

The incident happened after Praveen, playing for ONGC, bowled a short-pitched delivery at Income Tax batsman Ajit Argal. When Argal checked with the umpire whether it was a no ball, an angry Praveen started abusing the batsman prompting the on-field umpires to report the incident to match referee Dhananjay Singh.

It was also learnt that the match referee described Praveen as "mentally unfit" in his report to the BCCI. In an earlier match also, Praveen had a showdown with the crowd and the local cricket authorities had to ensure tighter security arrangements at the ground.

Praveen hasn't played for India since March 2012 because of a chest injury.
