Pune: Pune Warriors India allrounder Parvez Rasool made a much awaited debut in the Indian Premier League on Thursday, though his team lost to the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders. The 24-year-old made quite an impression with his economical spell of 1 for 23 in four overs which included the prized scalp of South African allrounder Jacques Kallis.
Talking to the IPL website, Rasool said, "I feel really great today. First of all, thanks to Almighty Allah that I have made it this far. It felt really nice to get an opportunity in the IPL and be able to perform at this level."
Rasool was also proud of the fact that his first wicket was of arguably the best allrounder in the world - Jacques Kallis. "Kallis is definitely a legend and the best allrounder. So it felt really good to get his wicket. After that, I also got a caught behind shout, but unfortunately my appeal was turned down by the umpire. But that happens sometimes. However, Kallis' wicket was something truly special for me," he added.
He also dedicated his maiden performance to all his fans across India and the people of the state of Jammu & Kashmir and had a special word of thank you for his teammate Yuvraj Singh. When asked whether he was nervous, Rasool replied, "Yes, the first couple of balls I was nervous. Then Yuvi Paaji (Yuvraj Singh) came over to me and helped me settle down.
"The whole of Jammu & Kashmir was watching today's match and I am proud of that. I would like to dedicate my debut performance to the entire state of Jammu & Kashmir and all the well-wishers all around India.
Pune lost to Kolkata by 46 runs - their 11th defeat in the tournament.
