Sanjay Bangar announces retirement

Kolkata: The former India batsman and Railways skipper, Sanjay Bangar, has announced his retirement after leading his team to a 122-run win over Bengal in their round nine match of the ongoing Ranji Trophy season.

The veteran allrounder's first-class career spanned 19 years, which included 165 matches from which he scored 8349 runs at an average of 33.35 and took 300 wickets. The retirement was a sudden decision from Bangar, when he realised Railways were not going to qualify for the knockout stage of the Ranji Trophy.

The 40-year-old played 12 Tests and 15 one-dayers for India. In Tests, Bangar scored 470 runs at an average of 29.37 including an unbeaten century against Zimbabwe. He will be remembered for his gritty 68 against England at Headingley and putting up a 170-run stand with Rahul Dravid.

The veteran allrounder\'s first-class career spanned 19 years, which included 165 matches.
