Porvorim: Services' skipper lead from the front and slammed a brilliant century to take his team to 284 for 4 at stumps on day one against Goa.
Soumik's knock of 103 off 243 balls was studded with 15 boundaries, while for Goa Sourabh Bandekar scalped two wickets by conceding 74 runs. Veteran Yaspal Singh was unbeaten at 92 and looked good for a big score.

In Agartala, Tripura were skittled out for meagre 106 after put in to bat by Jharkhand on day one of their round six Ranji Trophy match. The Tripura batsmen just could not resist the Jharkhand attack and were folded too early before their innings started. For Jharkhand, Ajay Yadav returned with a six-wicket haul while for the home team Subhrajit Roy was the top scorer with 43 runs. At stumps, Jharkhand were also struggling at 95 for 3.

In Guwahati, Assam were well placed at 213 for 4 at stumps on day one against Himachal Pradesh. Opener Pallav Das scored a clinical 90 after they were asked to bat first. For Himachal, Gurvinder Singh took two wickets, while Vikramjeet Singh and Mukesh Sharma claimed a wicket each.

In Mallapuram, Kerala were well placed after bundling out Jammu & Kashmir for 215 on day one. The visiting side elected to bat and failed to capitalise on the first day. While the bright spot for J&K was Ian Dev Singh with a century or else it was a poor show by the rest. But for CP Shahid it turned out to be a great day as he returned with figures of 8 for 51.
