Melbourne: Former Test selector John Benaud feels it is high time for Cricket Australia (CA) to sack Andrew Hilditch as the chief selector and replace Ricky Ponting with Michael Clarke as the captain.
The call from Benaud comes before a crucial CA board meeting that will discuss the game's structure, governance and fiscal models.
Benaud says Hilditch should step down after being in the chair for five years.
"If Greg Chappell is the full-time selector, you'd have to think he should be the chairman moving forward. My theory is five years in any role should be enough to achieve what you set out to achieve. If you haven't done the job in five years, you should move on graciously. Andrew may feel differently but the selection panel has to be freshened up," the Herald Sun quoted Benaud as saying.
Benaud said it was time for Clarke to be captain.
"The captaincy is a real issue. I think Ricky should stand down as captain and if he wants to play on, so be it. If we have a new chairman of selectors, I think we should have a new captain to go with a new era," he said.
