MS Dhoni may have taken over Sourav Ganguly as India's most successful captain but there are few who match the Kolkata icon's astuteness who has at times been touted as India's 'Comeback Man'. And at a time when Dhoni & Co. are struggling to overcome a losing streak on foreign soil, Ganguly hasn't minced words while sounding his opinion - whether it's about Dhoni's captaincy or team selection.

India suffered their fourth successive Test series defeat abroad after their 0-1 loss to New Zealand in the two-match rubber. They have now lost 10 of their last 12 Tests abroad - the other two were drawn, a record that included two successive 0-4 whitewashes in England and Australia.

Naturally, questions have been raised by fans and experts alike over Dhoni's leadership and the team's make-up in Test cricket. And Ganguly has led that autopsy from the front. Here's a compilation of the former captain's comments on the India's declining overseas record:

Dhoni's captaincy becoming 'obnoxious'

ALSO SEE Ganguly for Ojha, Bhajji in Tests

"His [Dhoni's] Test captaincy has been obnoxious. But changing captains now will unsettle the team. His place is not in doubt in Test cricket, but Dhoni needs to set the overseas record right.

"He has to be bold in taking decisions. He has to take risks to win. Sometimes, his decisions are negative like his decision to field after winning the toss.

"If the World Cup was not less than a year away, I would have agreed that Dhoni needed to be removed as captain."

Ishant remains an 'enigma'

"Ishant Sharma remains to be an enigma to me. He is the senior-most Indian bowler with experience, but he has been inconsistent under pressure as Mohammad Shami has become the backbone of Indian bowling."

Dhoni has to think about spin department

"I don't think pacers are a reason for India's defeat. But it's our spin department where we're lacking. All big teams have great spinners, be it Muttiah Muralitharan or Graeme Swann.

"Dhoni has to think about his spin department. Jadeja has no variation. We also need to bring back Harbhajan Singh. He has good record overseas. Both of them [Harbhajan and Ojha] are a must, especially in Test cricket.

"I'm highly surprised at Ojha's exclusion. He has the ability to take five wickets ... He has got the variety to take wickets."

Dada wants Zaheer and Pujara in ODIs

"I feel selectors should think about two players - Cheteshwar Pujara and Zaheer Khan. Pujara is the most-needed batsman in these [overseas] conditions. He has adjusted well in the Test mould and I'm sure he will do well in the ODI format.

"Similarly Zaheer is much needed in the bowling attack. If he can bowl 30 overs in Tests, why can't he do that for 10 overs [in ODIs]?"

Kohli obvious next captain

"Virat Kohli is the obvious and certain choice for captaincy. He's the best player in the world in one-day format at the moment. But as I said, we have to see till the Australia series [later this year].
