New Delhi: Former Indian selectors and Test cricketer Mohinder Amarnath came down heavily on Indian skipper MS Dhoni asserting that he doesn't deserve a place in the Test team, let alone be the captain but Indian selectors don't have guts to remove him from the post.

"Dhoni doesn’t find a place in the team. What has he done for the team in the last one year? He is not fit (to be in the team) considering his performance in the last one year. However, the selection committee does not have guts to remove Dhoni," the 62-year-old told the Times of India.

Amarnath, who was sacked from the selection committee in September 2012 after his alleged tiff with then chairman of selectors Kris Srikkanth, stated that he doesn't have anything against Dhoni but India must look at a 'broader perspective'. "I am not against him, or it is not that I do not like him. But we should look at it with a broader perspective. It is important to look at current performance of players rather than past performances."

Amarnath said that Dhoni doesn't deserve a place in the Test team, let alone be the captain but Indian selectors don't have guts to remove him.

The 69-Test veretran endorsed the idea of different captains for different formats and put forward the names of Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir as captains of ODIs and Tests. "There is no harm in having different captains for different forms of the game. I am impressed with Virat Kohli in the shorter version of the game. Gautam Gambhir could be a replacement for Dhoni in Tests," he concluded.
