New Delhi: The scheduled Sri Lanka tour of Zimbabwe, less than six weeks away, is in doubt following reports of the Zimbabwe Cricket Union (ZCU) not having the budget to host a third country in the space of three months. Though unconfirmed, reports suggest the Zimbabwean board has taken the decision to postpone Sri Lanka's visit because of monetary concerns.

A report in ESPNcricinfo quoted Sri Lanka Cricket secretary Nishantha Ranatunga as saying: "We received an e-mail from the Zimbabwe Cricket Union (ZCU) seeking a postponement of the tour and the reason given was 'due to unavoidable circumstances'. No further reasons were given by the Zimbabwe Cricket Union and we are awaiting further clarification on this matter."

The website also quoted Wilfred Mukondiwa, MD of Zimbabwe Cricket, adding: "We are in negotiations with Sri Lanka. We are always talking to other home boards, that is the normal course of business. At the opportune time, and when I have heard back from my Sri Lankan colleagues, we will make an announcement."

The ZCU has had monetary problems for some time, with a threat of boycott before the Pakistan series being quelled once the board agreed to pay the players their match fees.

Sri Lanka were due to play two Tests, three ODIs and a couple of Twenty20 internationals in Zimbabwe from October 6 to November 4. India toured in July for five ODIs and Pakistan are currently in the country for a full series that concludes on September 14.
