Commentary (South Africa 2nd Innings)

The South African team poses with the cup. They have deserved every bit of this. That's all we have for you from this series. We look forward to your company in the matches ahead. Until then, it's goodbye and take care!

Dilruwan Perera gets the Trusted player of the series. Says that he is disappointed for not getting the final two wickets. Says the wicket was a good one but he wishes to have finished the game for his team.

Dale Steyn is adjudged the Man of the Series. Starts off crediting the team for playing well in these conditions. Mentions he expected the hosts to come back hard at them. Calls it a special feeling to win against this side. Credits the entire team for playing well as a team.

Mahela Jayawardene is adjudged the Man of the Match. He starts off saying that they were lucky winning the toss, the wicket was good and they capitalized on it. Adds that scoring became tougher later, credits South Africa for playing well. Adds that his body sent him the signal about retiring from the game. He hopes to enjoy the last two Tests vs Pakistan.

With the series win, South Africans climb up to first position in the Test rankings. They continue to be one of the best Test sides for sometime now.

South Africa have won this series 1-0, their first Test series win in Sri Lanka since 1992. They won their first ODI series before this one and now they have a Test series win in their bag too, all in all a tour with a lot of satisfaction. Hashim Amla will be a proud man, winning his first Test and also the series as captain after Graeme Smith's retirement. Sri Lanka will be disappointed as they have had a wonderful year, beating England in their own den but losing here in their own backyard.

What an incredible Test match it turned out to be in the end. Sri Lanka were on the brink of a series levelling and face-saving win but South Africa, riding on their reputation to save games, have done so yet again. This was the most nerve-wrecking of all the saves as they had just two wickets left by stumps. The earlier encounters with India and Australia were not this close. Rain played a major part in the first session today but Sri Lanka sped through the overs via their spin-trio and completed the entire quota, some achievement.
