Steven Finn ruled out of first Test

New Delhi: England captain Alastair Cook has confirmed that Steve Finn who was suffering from thigh strain will not be taking part against India in the first Test match at Motera. It was kind of expected after he did not attend Tuesday's training session.

In a press conference, Cook said, "Steven will not be available for tomorrow's Test. It would be too big a risk." England are already playing a gamble on Stuart Broad's fitness since he is suffering from a bruised heel. Though it is not yet confirmed that who will replace Finn, most likely Tim Bresnan will feature in the first XI in place of Steve Finn.

England have other options as well in the likes of seamer Graham Onions and spinner Monty Panesar. The good news for England is Graeme Swann is back from England and he is ready to have a go against the Indians. Swann went back home few days back since his daughter Charlotte was hospitalized.

Unable to come good in the fitness test, Steven Finn now has to sit on the sidelines during the first Test.

"Two long-haul flights in the space of five days is not ideal preparation for the opening match of a huge series for England - but some things are more important than cricket," said Swann. Swann has missed several days of practice but is ready for the challenge.
