New Delhi: Paul Stirling and Mominul Haque gave Sylhet Royals the ideal start against Barisal Burners in the second edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in Mirpur on Friday. Royals beat Burners by 33 runs. In response to Royals' 175, Burners finished their innings on 142.
Stirling's 29 ball 50 and Haque's speedy 45 took Royals to a huge 175. Hamilton Masakadza and Stirling started off well but Nazimul Islam trapped Masakadza on 19. Haque joined Stirling after the departure of Masakadza and really took the battle to the opposition.
No other batsman could make any impact. Captain Mushfiqur Rahim started off with a six but fell cheaply to Alok Kapali for 13. For Buners Alok Kapali was the pick of the bowlers. He picked up two wickets in three overs. Burners' star player Azhar Mahmood proved to be expensive as he gave away 34 runs in four overs and scalped one wicket.
In response, Burners never looked comfortable as they finished their innings on 142 for 9 in 20 overs. Mohammad Nabi scalped two to give burners the early jolt and Shurawadi Shuvo scalped three to finish it off in style. Only Kabir Ali played a blistering innings for Burners as he made 50 off 21 balls but all his heroics went in vain.
