Leeds: Stuart Broad became the first England player to take two Test hat-tricks as he struck across two overs in the second Test against Sri Lanka on Friday.
He dismissed Kumar Sangakkara for 79 when the batsman sent the ball to Ian Bell at gully with the final delivery of Broad's 12th over at Headingley.
In his 13th over, Broad immediately took the wickets of Dinesh Chandimal for 45 and Shaminda Eranga (0).
Broad was on four-for-four balls when Nuwan Pradeep blocked a full delivery.
The 27-year-old Broad didn't realize he had taken the hat-trick until it was announced over a loudspeaker to the crowd at Headingley.
"I had no idea," Broad said. "That Sangakkara wicket was the big one, really. I was listening to the guy over the tannoy . and it sort of clicked that it might have been a hat trick."
Broad becomes only the fourth bowler in Test history to take two hat-tricks. Australia duo Hugh Trumble and Jimmy Matthews were the first two, followed by Wasim Akram.
Broad's first England hat trick was against India in 2011.
