Kolkata: Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly was on Saturday ruled out of the Bengal team for the domestic Twenty20 tournament for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy due to a hamstring injury.
Manoj Tiwary will lead Bengal in their title defence as they take on Baroda in the quarter-finals in Mumbai on Sunday.
Ganguly pulled a hamstring muscle while playing for Marylebone Cricket Club in the Emirates Airline Twenty20 in Dubai on Saturday, a team source told PTI.
Manoj Tiwary will lead Bengal in Ganguly's absence.
"He was to join the team on Saturday from Dubai. But he has flown straight to Kolkata after injuring a hamstring muscle.
He said he would try to join the squad if we make semis... But with the next match being the day after, it appears unlikely," the source said.
The veteran left-hander will lead Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 5, beginning April 4.
