Mumbai: Virat Kohli, India's ODI vice-captain and one of the most promising batting talents of the country, has credited Sachin Tendulkar as his inspiration to take up cricket. "Sachin Tendulkar is the reason I started playing," said Kohli at a felicitation function for Tendulkar organised by Mumbai Indians' owners Mukesh and Nita Ambani.
Kohli, who is in the form of his life having scored three hundreds in his past four ODIs, said that as a child he only dreamt of catching a glimpse of Tendulkar in person. "He is the reason why I have started playing cricket. Like me I think most of the youngsters in the India started playing cricket because of him.
"Now it is just a great honour to share the same dressing room with him. I remember when I was small, my only dream was to see him in real life and to play with him now is just a great honour for me. I couldn't have asked for anything more."
During the same function, when asked whether any current batsmen was capable of eclipsing his record Tendulkar replied, "I think they are present in this room, I can see them. Virat and Rohit are the ones. They are capable. I don't mind if any Indian breaks my record.
