New Delhi: Varun Aaron's tour of Australia ended before the start as an injury has ruled him out and presented Vinay Kumar an opportunity to feature in India's Test XI Down Under.
Aaron, who along with Umesh Yadav was touted as India's pace sensation, will now rehabilitate and hope to get fit before the tri-series in Australia, which begins after the four-Test series, with Sri Lanka as the third team.
The 22-year-old Aaron has got "stress reaction on the back" which he sustained during the ongoing ODI series against the West Indies. Aaron was left out of the ODI team after playing the first two matches at Cuttack and Visakhapatnam.
Aaron, has so far played one Test and four ODIs for India, taking three and six wickets respectively. While he made his ODI debut against England, his Test debut came about in the first Test against the visiting West Indians - both at Mumbai.
The 27-year-old Vinay, who is currently part of India's ODI squad, is yet to make his Test debut but has been part of India's limited-overs setup for close to a year since making his debut against Zimbabwe in May 2010 at Bulawayo. He has taken 16 wickets in 15 ODIs at an average of 36.31.
India play the first Test against Australia from December 26 after two warmup games against Cricket Australia Chairman's XI on Dec 15-16 and Dec 19-21.
