Mount Maunganui: Little-known New Zealand cricketer Bevan Small has become an internet sensation after taking an outstanding boundary catch during a domestic Twenty20 match last week.
Small's athletic leap on the edge of the long-on boundary to deny Northern Districts' Brad Wilson a six and signal the end of his innings in the process, went viral over the weekend and has attracted tens of thousands of views on the internet.
On the field as 12th man for Central Stags during their match against Northern Districts at Mount Maunganui in New Zealand's domestic HRV Cup, the 21-year-old Small was part of an outrageous fielding effort. Wilson hit the ball high up in the air and it looked destined to be a six, but Small came running around the boundary at full pelt and, in a superb leaping effort, parried the ball back into the field with one hand while airborne. His team-mate Michael Mason, a few feet away inside the ropes, proceeded to take the catch which sent Wilson back to the pavilion.

The catch has turned the unheralded Small into an internet hero, but did little to influence the outcome of the match, however, with Northern Districts claiming an easy eight-wicket victory.
