Dubai: Chanaka Welagedara, the left-arm fast bowler, has been called up to replace the injured Suranga Lakmal in Sri Lanka’s ODI squad. Lakmal has been ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates and the Twenty20 international due to injury.
Welagedara featured in all three Tests in the UAE but was overlooked for Sri Lanka’s original ODI squad. He has now been recalled following a spate of injuries. The other Sri Lankan players to have been sidelined with injuries are Dammika Prasad, Prasanna Jayawardene, Ajantha Mendis, Shaminda Eranga and Nuwan Kulasekara.
Welagedara has played ten ODIs, the latest of which came in June 2010, against India in the Asia Cup. He has taken 15 wickets at 28.86 and an economy rate of 5.68.
