Karachi: Senior batsman Muhammad Yousuf is mulling over a possible return to international cricket after former skipper Wasim Akram advised him to take back his retirement decision.
According to a report in the Express daily newspaper, after the advice given by Wasim, Yousuf has agreed to reconsider his decision and comeback to international cricket.
"I am thinking about a possible return to international cricket it is possible but eventually what God wants will happen," Yousuf said.
The senior batsman has steadfastly refused to come out of retirement which he announced in March when the Pakistan cricket Board banned and fined seven players for misconduct and indiscipline on the tour to Australia early this year.
Yousuf, one of Pakistan's leading run-getters in test and one-day internationals, was also banned for an indefinite period although he was captain on the troubled Australia tour.
Present captain, Shahid Afridi had strongly requested and asked Yousuf to make himself available for the Test tour to England but he kept on refusing.
"There is a possibility I can return to play in the series against South Africa in the UAE later this year," Yousuf said.
Wasim spoke to Yousuf a week back and reminded him that he should not sacrifice his career and make the national team suffer because he was upset with the board.
"Wasim told Yousuf that he had a Test batting average of 50 plus and if he played for two or three years more he would be ranked among the top batsmen in the world when he retired," the report said.
"Wasim also told Yousuf that he was a god gifted player and he was meant to serve Pakistan cricket so he should put aside his complaints with the board and focus on a comeback to the national team soon," the report stated.
Yousuf did make a return to the cricket field last week when he appeared in a match of the Lahore Premier League one-day tournament scoring 23 runs and also bowling six overs.
Sources said other former players including Inzamam-ul-Haq, Rashid Latif and Waqar Younis have also advised Yousuf to come out of retirement.
