Hyderabad: India discard Yusuf Pathan on Wednesday hoped that he would put up a good show in the Champions League Twenty 20 tournament and return to the national side soon.
"I want to perform well. My endeavour would be to do well so that the team benefits and reaches the final," he said in a media interaction here ahead of the qualifying round of this year's CLT20 beginning here from September 19.
Pathan, who is playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in the CL T20, felt that a good performance would help him in finding a place in the Indian cricket team.
"Obviously, CLT20 is a big tournament. Top club teams of many countries are competing. The better I perform in Champions League, I believe, the better my performance would be, greater would be my chances of a comeback," he said.
Asked if he was surprised that he did not get a call when replacements have been made during India's tour of England, he said: "These things can happen. But it's not the be all and end all. I hope there will be more opportunities if I keep performing."
Replying to a query, he said he would rectify any shortcomings on his part and try to improve his game.
"The way I batted earlier, I don't think I am lacking in something. If there are any shortcomings, I will try to rectify. I will continue to try to improve myself," he said.
He said he is undergoing fitness training and also taking rest as required to keep himself fit and injury-free.
