New Delhi: The Sandip Patil-led BCCI selection committee on Saturday awarded medium pacer Vinay Kumar and wicketkeeper batsman Dinesh Karthik for their good show in IPL 6 with a call-up to India's ODI squad for the Champions Trophy in England next month. However, veteran opener Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh didn't find a place in the 15-member touring party.
The All-India Senior Selection Committee met at the Cricket Centre in Mumbai earlier on Saturday, where it also recalled Shikhar Dhawan to the squad in place of Gambhir who was part of the team for the home series against Pakistan. Also dropped is batsman Ajinkya Rahane, who has been replaced by Murali Vijay.
The selectors also recalled fast bowler Umesh Yadav to the ODI set-up after he returned fit and showed decent form for Delhi Daredevils in the ongoing IPL. He is part of the five pacers selected in the squad, with Irfan Pathan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, and Vinay being the other four. However, Irfan can consider himself lucky to be included despite his average show in the IPL.
R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Amit Mishra are the three specialist spinners selected to play the Champions Trophy.
The Selection Committee also picked 21 probables for the tri-series in the West Indies, which will follow the ICC Champions Trophy. The fifteen members of the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy apart, the following six players were named as probables: Manoj Tiwary, Praveen Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Ambati Rayudu, Rahul Sharma and Gautam Gambhir.
