Criminal case against Jayamala

CNN-IBN

Thiruvananthapuram: The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), which met on Friday to discuss the controversy sparked by Kannada actress Jayamala’s claim that she had entered the sanctum sanctorum of Sabarimala temple, has asked the Kerala government to order a criminal investigation into the case.

Meanwhile, Devaswom employees protesting against Jayamala’s claims burned an effigy of her on Friday. Women in the age group of 10-50 years are barred from entering the temple.

The three-member board indicated that the temple’s own investigative wing had its limitations in conducting the probe in a sensitive matter involving inter-state ramifications.

The TDB's Vigilance wing, headed by a Superintendent of Police, entrusted with the task of a preliminary probe, had failed to record the statement of Jayamala in Bangalore.

Recently, another Kannada actress Girija Lokesh went public claiming that she had visited the temple.
