New Delhi: The race for Oscars is hotting up and the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA), an organisation representing 200 television, radio and online critics, has put out its list of the nominations of year 2006.
The largest film critics' organisation in the US and Canada, BFCA, has shortlisted 10 movies for the best film award. First up are two Leonardo di Caprio starrers Blood Diamond and The Departed.
Incidently, the current golden boy of Hollywood, Caprio, is also competing against himself for the best actor award from these two films.
Also making it to the list are Little Miss Sunshine and Babel. While the former is the story of a family determined to get their young daughter into the finals of a beauty pageant, Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett-starrer, Babel, is a continent-hopping adventure.
Also in the league is Beyonce-starrer Dreamgirls, which marks her second tryst with the big screen as a part of a trio of singing sisters. Clint Eastwood's Japanese venture Letters From Iwo Jima is also making all the right noises amongst the critics.
Small-time filmmaker Todd Field's Little Children and Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett-starrer Notes on a Scandal are also among the nominations.
Notes on a Scandal, with a tagline that goes 'One Woman's Mistake Is Another's Opportunity' seems to have struck the right notes too.
Chronicling the reaction of the British Queen to Princess Diana's death, with Tony Blair thrown in, The Queen has been a front-runner from the beginning.
United 93, a real time account of passengers foiling the terrorists plan on 9/11, is also among the nominations. The winners will be announced at the 12th Annual Broadcast Critics Choice Awards on January 12.
