Happy ending for cross-border love

Indore: On Janmashtami, here is the story of net-crossed lovers from India and Pakistan that has a happy ending.

Sandeep, a resident of Indore, met Dezari of Karachi through the Internet.

Sandeep's family members are overjoyed that after three years of struggle their daughter-in-law is finally coming home.

"The three-year period was a difficult one for me. We wondered how we will ever meet," says Sandeep.

Regular chats kept their friendship alive though for a long time Sandeep wasn't aware that Dezari was a girl.

"We met in the Yahoo! chat room. We were discussing a religious matter and she liked my ideas," he recalls.

Eventually, they fell in love and wanted to get married. But Dezari couldn't come to India, as she was not able to obtain a visa from the Indian authorities in Pakistan.

After a long wait, both decided to marry in Nepal, where acquiring their marriage certificate only required them to stay on for a month after the ceremony.

Problems arose when after the Naxal attacks Sandeep and Dezari had to return to their respective countries.

Finding themselves helpless, the couple wrote to President A P J Abdul Kalam and now the Indian authorities have agreed to issue a visa to Dezari.

"We had sent a mail to the President telling him about our case," says Dezari.

Although granted a three-month visa, the couple is keen that Dezari gets Indian citizenship as soon as possible, so their love doesn't suffer the divided borders.
