Gorakhpur (UP): A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan on election duty in Gorakhpur has been accused of raping a minor girl.
The incident took place at the village in the Dhuriapar assembly constituency in Gorakhpur on Monday.
The 10-year-old girl says the jawan molested her when she was on her way back home.
As news spread, angry residents of Gangwal village staged a protest against the CRPF. Police soon rushed to the spot and pacified the villagers.
Two CRPF jawans are in custody and a complaint has been registered.
“The girl has been sent for medical examination. The alleged CRPF jawan has been taken into custody & examination. Further action will be taken depending on the results of those medical tests,” says Senior Superintendent of Police S K Bhagat.
The CRPF contingent in Dhuriapar will now be replaced by the Border Security Force.
In February this year a police constable had raped a 17-year-old girl in Gorakhpur when the city was under curfew due to communal violence. The victim's mother had said that the accused forced his way into their house at night during the curfew hours.
