New Delhi: The nexus between CRPF jawans and militants is a problem that has been worrying the Central Reserve Police Force for some time now.
The police have again arrested a CRPF constable in Pulwama district for having links with the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.
Mudassir Yousuf Bhat, a Kashmiri from Sopore, was arrested when he was allegedly carrying a grenade and an Improvised Explosive Device.
The CRPF constable was apparently going to bomb his own battalion headquarters.
This deep security force-militant nexus is proving to be a worrying trend for security and police establishments.
To arrest the trend, the CRPF has now asked the police and intelligence agencies to prepare a background verification note.
This will mean that most of the 700 Kashmiri CRPF personnel recruited in the past few years would be under electronic surveillance.
“The system of screening and verification would continue and we expect JKP will take all precautions while verifying and give us feedback, because we depend on police. I am sure JKP will be taking adequate precautions for future recruitments,'' said CRPF IGP (Operations), M S Gupta.
Mudassir's arrest comes just weeks after two CRPF men were found involved in a terror strike in the state. The government is now worried that militants are successfully intruding into the country's security set up.
