Crush course: Kids fight piracy

New Delhi: Crush, crush and crush! Delhi kids are doing what they do best – breaking household stuff.

Only that the stuff facing their wrath are all pirated CDs.

In yet another initiative taken by the film industry to fight piracy, the Motion Picture Association (MPA) launched an anti-piracy campaign in the capital on Saturday. And the campaign was flagged off by none other than actress-activist Shabana Azmi.

”Crush, crush and crush some more,” seemed to be the mantra of the students of Modern School, New Delhi, as they catwalked their way over hundreds of seized pirated CDs. Surprisingly, the ‘downloading’ generation seems to be more in tune with piracy than one assumes.

The actress gave a quick speech on how kids should be aware about the crime of piracy, and then moved on to ‘bulldoze’ that into practice.

“I have been working with the MPA for the past four or five years. Many children don't know that downloading is a criminal act," she said.

As Shabana broke some CDs apart, it was clear that duplicating of original work for a fee was something the Motion Picture Association was going to take very seriously.

Anti-piracy campaigns like this have happened before a number of times. What remains to be seen this time round is whether they can get to the root of the problem as people continue to innocently download and burn CDs.
