New Delhi: The protests in Manipur over the alleged fake encounter of an ex-militant and a pregnant woman show no signs of abating with government on Wednesday issuing shoot-at-sight orders in capital Imphal.
Earlier, indefinite curfew was imposed in Imphal on Tuesday night following violent protests over the killing of the unarmed ex-militant Chungkham Sanjit in an alleged fake encounter by security forces on July 23.
A five-month pregnant woman Th Rabina was also killed in the alleged encounter with security forces claiming that she was hit by a bullet fired by Sanjit.
A police official said that the curfew was imposed on Imphal municipal limit from 1000 hrs IST.
Life has been crippled in Manipur for the fourth straight day on Wednesday with protests continuing all over the state over the alleged encounter.
Opposition parties have been demanding that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh take responsibly and the killings and resign.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday three women tried to strip completely as a mark of protest outside the Raj Bhavan but were stopped by the police.
Normal life has been paralysed with markets and shops closed down for the last fours and transport services between Manipur and neighbouring states being cancelled.
A local group called Apunba Lup has been spearheading the campaign for justice for Sanjit and the pregnant woman.
Pictures in Tehelka showed that Sanjit was unarmed when he was allegedly overpowered by police commandos near a pharmacy and the taken inside the shop.
Another photos showed his dead body being dragged out by commandos out of the pharmacy.
The Manipur government had on Monday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the alleged fake encounter.
