Curtainraiser: Goa all set for IFFI

Goa: Sun, sand and cinema return to Goa for the third year as International Film Festival of India (IFFI) gets set to kick off on the November 23.

Goa is getting ready to receive International filmmakers, Bollywood stars and other movie buffs from across the world for the two-week film bonanza.

The festival opens with a gala evening inaugurated by veteran actor Shashi Kapoor. Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Esha Deol, Bipasha Basu and Riteish Deshmukh are expected to represent Bollywood.

Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar's film Volver starring Penelope Cruz will open the festival and Babel, a film by Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu, starring Brad Pitt and Kate Blanchett will be the closing film.

You can also feast your eyes on All The Kings Men, Marie Antoinette and Borat among others. Rang De Basanti will open the mainstream cinema segment.

This year the special focus will be on Argentinean cinema. Eleven films from 10 countries are part of the competition section and in the cinema of the world segment 52 films from 48 countries will be screened.

The two-week extravaganza will also see beach screenings of popular Hindi films, a fashion show by Bollywood's favourite designers Manish Malhotra, Vikram Phadnis, Shahid Amir and Seema Khan, a concert by Sonu Nigam, a musical tribute to R D Burman by composer trio Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy among other filmi activities.
