Custodial death triggers tension in J-K

New Delhi: A custodial death of businessman Rajneesh Sharma has triggered tension in Jammu.

The wife of a man who was found hanging in Srinagar's Ram Munshi Bagh police station, has accused the police of colluding with her family to kill him.

Anchal, a Muslim, called Amina earlier had married Rajneesh on August 21, 2009 much against the wishes of her family. Her father had lodged a complaint with the police saying his daughter was missing.

Rajneesh Sharma was picked up by the police from his brother Pawan's hosue in Rechari in Jammu on October 2.

The police claim Rajneesh hanged himself in the police station.

Meanwhile, the Srinagar administration has ordered a judicial inquiry into the matter and has suspended two constables and the SHO.

Basant Rath, SSP Jammu said, “We will definitely act on the complaint that has come before us.”

Rajneesh Sharma's death has triggered tension in Jammu. People took to the streets on Friday protesting the alleged custodial death.

The mob even manhandled the additional district collector.

Rajneesh Sharma's family which had in fact refused to cremate the body agreed after senior citizens and government officers met them and promised a fair probe and compensation.
