Cwealth Games: Is Delhis greens at stake?

New Delhi: The stadium for badminton and squash being built for the Common Wealth Games will come at the cost of precious green cover.

The project is being constructed adjacent to the Siri Fort sports complex.

A senior Supreme Court lawyer, M L Lahoty has even filed a PIL against the Rs 200 crore project.

“They are going to demolish our golf driving range and children's corner and this will severely harm the lush green ambience of the place and that too for an event which will last only for 15 days,” says Lahoty.

“There is no need for constructing a third access road as there is already an acces road within the complex,” says Congress Spokesperson, Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

It is not certain whether these golfers will be able to swing their clubs for very long.

Lahoty claims an underground parking will be built by demolishing this drive range. DDA, however, offered no comments on this.

The DDA says that it will plant more trees and re establish all structures that were demolished in preparation for the Commonwealth Games.

But the big question is will they be able to bring back the original ambience of the place.
