New Delhi: Time is running out for the beleaguered former Commonwealth Games OC (Organising Committee) chief Suresh Kalmadi. CNN-IBN has learnt that Kalmadi is going to be arrested by the CBI within the next one week on charges of causing deliberate delays in many games deals.
Kalmadi, however, still says: "Let law take its own course. Let's see what happens"
The reason why Kalmadi will find the going tough is because the investigators haven't bought his logic of all decisions being vetted by multiple committees.
Not just that, CNN-IBN has also learnt that Kalmadi is going to be booked in the Overlays scam, a fraud to the tune of over Rs 600 crore.
CBI has already arrested Lalit Bhanot and VK Verma - senior OC officials who worked closely with Kalmadi in the time scoring and record device purchase scam, which was first exposed on CNN-IBN.
In his defence, Verma said, "The entire project had been referred to ministry. There have been layers of examinations of the case before the contract was placed. It’s all before the Executive Board.”
CNN-IBN has already reported about the findings of the Shunglu Panel raising questions about Kalmadi's modus operandi of causing delays even in catering facilities. With the arrest of one of his close aides Lalit Bhanot and another one of his associates TS Darbari having spent two months in jail, Kalmadi has plenty of reasons to be worried about.
