New Delhi: One year after the Commonwealth Games those who booked flats in the Games Village are yet to get possession. Over 450 home buyers paid Rs two crores each, that's around Rs 1500 crore for flats in the games village.
Rajiv and Upasana are among the 450 who booked a 3-BHK-flat in the CWG village. A year after the games, they are yet to getheir flat while they continue pay a hefty rent for their 2-BHK-flat.
Rajiv said, "we are losing upto Rs 8-10 lakh a year because of this delay in getting our house."
The delay in possession is because of a dispute between Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and builder Emaar MGF over the latter's alleged violation of the Floor Area Ratio. The DDA, who was implementing the project, had earlier ignored floor area violations by the private developer.
The DDA is also under the scanner for bailing out Emaar MGF by giving the company Rs 766 crore when they ran out of funds for construction.
Most home buyers believed the project backed by the government was clean, but the Comptroller and Auditor General of India found violations at every level. After its completion, it is over 10,000 sqm more than whats allowed under the Delhi master plan.
The DDA took the matter to the Urban Development Ministry which has recomended it to the GoM.
Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath said, "We are looking into what can be done. The matter is already with the GoM."
The Emaar MGF who allegedly violated the Floor area ratio have already made profit on the project as those who bought the apartments have made 95 per cent to 100 per cent payment before September 2010.
Distressed by the delay, some buyers approached the Delhi High Court demanding justice.
"On october 14, the HC had given 14 months to Minister of Urban Development to take a decision and the next hearing has been set for December 29," said Vishal, one of the petitioners.
As the court case is going on some of the buyers haven't yet been able to see their house.
"I have come so many times pleading EMAAR to please let us in. Let us have one look at the house. I have never been to this dream house that I thought I will get last year or maybe at the beginning of this year. I am yet to see the house," said a hassled buyer.
