New Delhi: Malaysia and Australia have issued advisory against travel to Delhi for the Commonwealth Games (CWG) due to the dengue scare. Indian embassies report that athletes' families are unwilling to travel to India for the CWG because of the outbreak.

The National Capital has seen a major dengue outbreak and it is expected to rise in the month of October.

The Government has been under-reporting the number of dengue cases. 863 cases of dengue reported across Delhi so far.

However, CNN-IBN conducted a status-check in the city's major hospitals and found 1014 cases at Holy Family Hospital in Jamia Nagar, alone. The Max Hospital group found 421 cases at its various branches. The Apollo Hospital has reported a total of 55 cases.

The AIIMS Hospital has reported 75 cases; the GTB Hospital reported 40 cases and the Safdarjung Hospital found 53 cases. That brings the total to 1658, close to double the official number of 863.

With the Games construction work in full swing around the city, the Health Ministry is keeping its fingers crossed - hoping against hope that the dengue outbreak does not add to the Indian Government's embarrassment. The Ministry is planning to write to its missions abroad asking them to reassure tourists that Delhi is a safe destination.
