Hyderabad: India's ace badminton player and world No. 3 Saina Nehwal on Saturday spoke for the first time on whether India is prepared to host the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in New Delhi, which are less than one month away now.
The star shuttler - who incidentally is also one of the Brand Ambassadors of CWG - questioned the completeness of Commonwealth Games preparations.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy here, Saina said: "Looking at the stadiums and looking at the progress, I don't really think we are capable of holding such big tournaments because, you know, I have seen many Games like the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and Olympic Games in Beijing. Compared to that, its not upto the mark."
She, however, was hopeful that everything would be in order before the Games begin. "But I am sure that before 3rd or 2nd of October, it will be ready and people will like it," said Saina.
The CWG Organising Committee Secretary General Lalit Bhanot refused to comment on Saina's remarks, saying, "I have no comments to make."
Saina Nehwal - who recently dropped to No. 3 in the world after losing in the quarterfinals of the World Badminton Championships in Paris - will lead India's medal hopes in badminton in the CWG.
