Hyderabad: After spending the night at Hyderabad's Chanchalguda jail, YSR Congress chief and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy moved the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court for bail on Tuesday in the disproportionate assets case. The bail has been posted for May 31 for hearing.

Jagan met his family members including his wife Bharathi and mother YS Vijaya inside the jail on Tuesday morning before applying for bail. Jagan was sent to 14-day judicial custody on Monday in the disproportionate assets case.

Meanwhile, the CBI, which was denied Jagan Reddy's custody, is likely to move a higher court for his custody. The Enforcement Directorate, too, is likely to question him in connection with the case.

Jagan spent his first night in Hyderabad's Chanchalguda jail on Monday after a court sent him to 14-day judicial custody, which means he won't be able to campaign for the crucial by-polls for one Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly seats scheduled to take place on June 12.

Jagan's mother Vijayamma Reddy is set ti begin campaigning for the by-polls on Wednesday from Srikakulam.

She had also written to the Chief Election Commissioner asking him to let Jagan campaign. Jagan's mother in her letter to the EC said, "The CBI has arrested Jagan Reddy most undemocratically just 15 days before the by-elections as part of a larger conspiracy. It is no secret that the YSR Congress has gained an unprecedented ground in the state, the losers being the Congress and the TDP. Both of them have phenomenal clout and are misusing every institution with impunity. I request you to kindly direct the CBI to immediate release Jagan.'

Jagan, arrested in a disproportionate assets case, will stay in jail till the eve of the crucial by-polls in the state, if not granted bail. He has been remanded to judicial custody for two weeks by a CBI court.
