Armed miscreants on Tuesday evening struck at a resort in Shamirpet on the outskirts of the city and robbed Rs 2.5 lakh and 35 tolas of gold from a group of persons in one of the cottages in the resort and inflicted minor injuries on some who tried to chase and nab them. The incident took place in the Celebrity Club.
According to the police, a group of 10 persons, armed with knives, forcibly entered the resort and looted the group who had come to play a game of cards at a cottage in the resort. “Even as the group was getting ready to start the game, nearly 10 persons forcibly entered the cottage and threatening the inmates, took away their cash, gold and mobile phones,” Petbasheerabad assistant commissioner of police Syed Rafeek said.
After collecting the valuables, the dacoits tried to flee in two vehicles, in which they had come, when some of the inmates tried to nab them. The assailants hit one of them with the butt of a knife while four others suffered minor knife injuries on the fingers and shoulders. All of them were treated and their condition is stated to be stable. The cottage was booked by a businessman, B Nagarjuna Reddy, and his friends were the other visitors.
Syed Rafeek said the offenders did not wear any mask to conceal their identity. They were aged between 20-25 years and spoke in Telugu. One of them had a Rayalaseema accent while the other spoke in a Tamil-Telugu mixed accent, police said.
Ruling out the possibility of the involvement of the staff members, police said they suspect some persons who earlier worked in the resort might be involved in the dacoity. The daciots were aware that the cottage was located at a secluded place and it was difficult even for the staff to reach quickly.
“Playing cards is not permissible in the resort but the management sometimes allows it. We frequently conduct raids but the menace is still going on,” a police officer said.
