New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday that the route undertaken by Mahatma Gandhi and his followers during his historic Dandi Salt Satyagraha is being developed as a tourist place.
In a reply, Minister for Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni said the route is being developed as a heritage path and the surrounding areas would be developed under the rural tourism project.
Both the projects are being undertaken at a cost of Rs 430.27 lakh.
Soni said the development and promotion of tourism is undertaken primarily by the state government
However, the Ministry of Tourism has extended financial assistance to the state under the 10th Five Year Plan for certain tourism projects.
The execution of the project remains the responsibility of state government while the Centre regularly monitors the progress, Soni said.
